Glynn Mamie Sparks was born on 25 November 1915, in Barksdale, Edwards County, Texas, USA to her parents Samuel “Sam” Sparks and Zorah Ada “Zora” Pope Sparks. She had several siblings. She was the sister of Quinn Ike Sparks, Sam Dennis Sparks, Alice Sparks Rehag, Clarice Zora Sparks Moulton, and Eula Sue Sparks Fisher. Glynn is a graduate of Austin High School in El Paso, Texas.
Glynn was a Texas state diving champion in high school. She became a physical training instructor and a high school teacher. She met and married Henry Nelson Elliott, who worked as a predator-control specialist for the U.S. Department of Fish & Wildlife. She and Henry were reportedly married on 20 August 1938, in El Paso, El Paso, Texas, United States. They had two children.
Their daughter is Glenda Elliott and their son is Sam Elliott born Samuel Pack Elliott. Sam once said of his mother Glynn’s family: “My mother’s family, the Sparks family, grew up in a cabin with a dirt floor, but my mom said they never knew that they were poor. The Sparks girls were all beauties. My mother was a top athlete at UTEP in basketball, volleyball, and tennis.”
“The day after she graduated, my parents moved to Marfa and my sister was born there, but I was born in California.” The family moved from California to Portland, Oregon. Glynn’s son Sam Elliott decided to pursue a career in acting and she was very supportive of her son. “Going into acting was against a lot of people’s better judgment – my dad thought I was nuts, but my mother was always supportive”, Sam revealed.

Glynn Mamie Sparks’s Husband Died In Her Arms
Glynn Mamie Sparks’ husband Henry Nelson Elliott is said to have died in her arms in their living room in Portland, Oregon. Henry was killed by a heart attack. He died on the 11th of February 1966, in Portland, Multnomah County, Oregon, USA when he was 55 years old. Henry died before his son Sam Elliott became successful but he saw “only a play or two of” his son before he died.
“I think he’d be proud that his kid became the actor I did,” Sam said. Henry wasn’t too happy Sam chose to pursue an acting career. “He gave me that proverbial line, ‘You’ve got a snowball’s chance in hell of having a career in (Hollywood)’,” Sam recalled. “He was a realist, my dad. He was a hard worker. He had a work ethic that I’ve fashioned mine after, and I thank him for that every day.”
As for Sam Elliott, he thinks his father “died thinking, ‘Man, this kid is going to go down the wrong path.’” Sam added: “And I think on some level that was either hard on me or made me more focused in my resolve to have a career.” However, it is believed that Henry Nelson Elliott would be very proud of who his son Sam Elliott is today.
Glynn Mamie Sparks Died In 2011
Glynn Mamie Sparks died on 19 November 2011, in Portland, Multnomah County, Oregon, USA. She was at the age of 95 years old at the time she died. She is survived by her children, Glenda Elliot Ford, and Samuel “Sam” Pack Elliott, and two grandchildren, Denise Michele Ford and Cleo Rose Elliott. She was buried at River View Cemetery, Portland, Multnomah County, Oregon, USA.

After Glynn passed away, her son Sam Elliott became the owner of the family home in northeast Portland. “My mom’s house is still (in Portland), and we still own it,” Sam said. “I still spend a lot of time there. I’ve got a place in the Willamette Valley, down near Eugene. I’m ultimately hoping to move back to Oregon.”
